Software Engineer · Full-Stack Developer
Hi, I'm Aiden.
I build React-based web apps, FastAPI backends, and cloud-deployed full-stack systems.
Software Engineering graduate from UNSW with experience building practical web applications, API-driven backends, and deployment-ready systems.
- React / TypeScript
- FastAPI / PostgreSQL
- Docker / AWS EC2
Education
Sep 2024 – Oct 2025
- Focused on AI-powered software systems, secure web application development, scalable system design, and full-stack software development.
Feb 2019 – Apr 2024
- Trained in software architecture, system design, implementation, testing, and end-to-end software delivery.
- Nominated for the UNSW Thesis Showcase 2023.
Professional Experience
- Developed and maintained React-based frontend features and Node.js backend API functionality for an e-commerce and warehouse management platform, enhancing operational workflows and customer-facing functionality.
- Implemented backend business logic for order sorting and organization, automating repetitive processing workflows and reducing manual effort for internal staff by approximately 12%.
- Strengthened application security by improving input validation, access control, and authentication mechanisms to mitigate common web security risks.
- Developed and maintained a Unity/C# forensic investigation simulation used in undergraduate teaching, contributing to feature development, code refactoring, and performance optimization.
- Refactored a large existing codebase using object-oriented design principles and modular architecture, improving maintainability and supporting future feature expansion.
- Collaborated with designers, academic stakeholders, and developers in an Agile environment using Git-based workflows to deliver interactive learning experiences.
Immersive Technology Developer Intern
UNSW – Media & Immersive Team
Race to the South Pole
- Extended development of Race to the South Pole following honours thesis completion, delivering remaining Unity/C# simulation features and advancing the project from academic prototype to production-ready educational software.
- Drove iterative refinement by translating user feedback from pilot sessions and student evaluations into targeted improvements across gameplay systems, UI/UX flows, and simulation logic to enhance usability and learning outcomes.
- Partnered with the Media & Immersive Team in an Agile, Git-based workflow to prioritize post-thesis enhancements, coordinate cross-functional requirements, and ship stable feature releases aligned with academic deployment timelines.
- Assisted in the development of React and Redux features for administration systems used by hospitality businesses, including Gong Cha.
- Supported front-end implementation, testing, and maintenance activities for restaurant ordering and management applications.
Projects
- Built a mobile-first Sydney Trains trip planner using Transport for NSW Open Data, allowing users to save frequent routes and view upcoming services.
- Developed a React and TypeScript frontend with responsive trip cards, station search, saved trips, schedule views, auto-refreshing service data, and guest mode.
- Implemented a FastAPI backend with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Alembic migrations, API rate limiting, and secure server-side integration with TfNSW APIs.
- Containerised the application with Docker Compose and deployed it to AWS EC2, using production environment variables, internal Docker networking, and an nginx entrypoint.
React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, Docker, AWS EC2
- Led frontend architecture and implementation for an AI-powered curriculum evaluation platform, building a scalable React application structure, reusable components, and maintainable UI workflows.
- Developed key frontend features including OTP login, file upload flows, chat-based evaluation interaction, history views, report display, and responsive interface states.
- Served as Scrum Master for a 6-member team, coordinating technical discussions, sprint planning, frontend-backend integration, and client feedback from UNSW Law & Justice stakeholders.
- Later containerised and deployed the frontend demo on a personal Synology NAS using Docker, nginx, Cloudflare Tunnel, and a custom subdomain for portfolio demonstration.
- Developed a gamified logistics simulation using Unity and C# that helps business students explore and learn concepts relating to strategy and logistics.
- Collaborated with design professionals to refactor the UI/UX simulation design, improving the average user experience by ~57% through user survey.
- Engineered the system code with Object-Oriented Design & Programming techniques, dramatically reducing the difficulty of developing, maintaining, and upgrading the logistics simulation while keeping it at a high standard.
- Nominated by UNSW Thesis Showcase 2023 (Top 40).
UNSW TripWatch
Feb 2022 – Apr 2022
- Developed a Python-based data pipeline to collect and process global disease outbreak information from public health sources.
- Built a React-based web application that integrated real-time outbreak data and travel information to support informed travel planning.
- Collaborated within a development team to deliver a full-stack solution using React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and external API integrations.
